Installing Good Intranet Server

Use the following procedure to install a Good Intranet Server. Repeat the procedure for additional servers as needed. Each server can manage handhelds distributed across multiple Good Messaging and Exchange servers. You can assign handhelds to Good Intranet Servers according to the organizational scheme most convenient to you.

  1. Log in using the new administrative user account (Good IntranetAdmin) you created for Good Intranet Server.
  2. Make sure the Services control panel is closed.
  3. Good Intranet Server software is included with the Good Messaging Server distribution media. Start setup.exe from the distribution media.
  4. A setup screen appears with a list of items you can install. Click Add/Remove for Good Intranet Server.
  5. Installation files are extracted and an installation wizard appears.

  6. Follow the installation instructions. Click Next to proceed to the next screen. Click Back to return to a previous screen.

License Agreement
To proceed with the installation, you must accept the terms of the Good Technology software license agreement by clicking Yes.
Server Registration
Enter the Good Intranet serial number and site license key.
Server Name
Enter a descriptive name of your choice for Good Intranet Server. This name will appear in the Good Intranet Console. The name can be up to 16 characters long. No spaces allowed. For future reference, make a note of the name you enter.
Good Management Server Host
Enter the host name or IP address of the machine that runs the Good Management Server for your network.
Server Location
Accept the default installation directory for Good Intranet Server software or browse to select a different location. If you select a directory that doesn't exist, the installer will create one for you.
Log Directory
Set the location of the directory to store server log files. You can store log files on the server host or on another host. If you select a directory that doesn't exist, the installer will create one for you.
Cache Directory
Set the location of the cache directory. This directory stores handheld data synchronization files created by the server. You can set the cache directory on the server host or on a physically connected high speed external storage disk. If you select a directory that doesn't exist, the installer will create one for you.
Windows Account Information
Enter the Domain, Login Name, and Password for the Windows user account you're using to install Good Intranet Server. For example:
Domain\GoodIntranetAdmin
opensesame
This information is used to install Good Intranet Server as a service and start (or stop) the services.
Note: The domain and account names are not case sensitive, but the password is.
   

Using a Proxy Server With Good Intranet Server

You can use an approved proxy server to communicate with Good Messaging Operations Center if you are unable to grant access via your firewall. The proxy server can be configured without granting additional access on the firewall. To install Good Intranet with a proxy server:

  1. When the Proxy Server screen appears during installation, enter the appropriate information for your proxy server.
  2. Note: HTTP/1.1 is required. HTTP/1.0 is not supported. The Good Messaging Servers and Good Management Servers have been tested for use with the Squid 2.4 proxy server and a NetCache 3100 proxy server (NetApp Release 5.2.1R2) set with basic configurations.

Proxy Address is the IP address or name of the proxy server to use.
Proxy Port is the port of the proxy server to use.
User is the username to use with HTTP/1.1 Basic Authentication for authenticating to the Proxy.
Password is the password to use with HTTP/1.1 Basic Authentication for authenticating to the Proxy.

You can start the Good Intranet Server service now, or wait and customize server configuration, then start the service.

Note: During installation, Good Intranet Server is automatically configured to use the Windows service recovery feature. In case of unexpected failure, this feature will automatically attempt to restart the service.

If you want to view or change Recovery settings, open the Services control panel and select the Good Intranet Service. Then, choose Properties > Recovery from the context menu.

Viewing Installed Files

After you install Good Intranet Server, take a quick look at the installation directory. By default, the files are installed in
C:\Program Files\Good Technology\Good Intranet Server\.

You should see the following directories and files:
